Sketching Interiors

In chapter 8 of Sketching Interiors, we learn even more about how to sketch with markers. We learned how to quick sketch with markers, which is a very valuable skill, especially for the schematic design phase. You want to make sure to sketch with accurate perspective and proportion, otherwise the sketch is a waste. For a quick sketch, you don’t need to add all of the small details. You also want to make sure you add contrast to your sketch. This can be achieved by using different colors and values to add depth. Closer objects should have stronger contrast. Texture is also very important in sketching. It shows the realism of an object or environment. This can be achieved through different line qualities and strokes. You can also use a computer program like Photoshop to add more realistic textures to drawings. The volume of the sketch is also important. The size and position of objects in a sketch are important as well as their proportion. You can use thick and thin lines to also display a sense of volume and distance. Color and light are also two very important factors in sketching. Light and reflections affect the color seen by the eye. It is important to account for the different color schemes and color combinations the interior uses. There are 4 color schemes: Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary, and Triad. There are 3 color combinations: Limited, Emphasis, and Multiple. There are also 4 different drawing styles which are important to remember: Basic, Modern, Classical, and Natural. Incorporating and using each of these can make your sketches more realistic and alive.
